Medical technology - a key sector of the Swiss economy

Switzerland has a strong and growth-oriented medical technology sector. With the Medical Manufacturing industry sector, Swissmem brings companies together and promotes the cross-industry exchange of technological and regulatory know-how.

Switzerland is one of the world's leading locations for innovation and, with its strengths in quality, precision and efficiency, also offers ideal conditions for future-oriented medical technology. Accordingly, a large number of companies have established themselves that occupy leading international positions with their solutions and products. In addition, there is an innovation-promoting environment of universities, universities of applied sciences and clinics, which drives the development of new technologies, products and treatment methods and often commercializes them via start-ups.

Such services at the highest level require the permanent adaptation and implementation of new, advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing, precision tools, more efficient machine tools and automation solutions. With its network of industry sectors, Swissmem can provide access to knowledge and technologies.

The Medical Manufacturing (MM) industry sector promotes the networking of its members with the expertise and companies of other industry sectors in order to benefit from new manufacturing solutions and technologies for medical technology. In addition, the industry sector is committed to the application of digital technologies in manufacturing and regulation, in particular within the framework of the “Swiss Network for Digital Medical Regulation” association.
