Swissmem Vocational Training is a centre of excellence and service centre for vocational training relating to the Swiss mechanical and electrical engineering industries (MEM industries). We strengthen the competitiveness of Switzerland as a centre of research and industry by promoting a modern form of vocational training that appeals to young people.
With 21 full-time employees and 3 apprentices, Swissmem Vocational Training is the largest organization in Switzerland to be entirely devoted to the development of vocational trainers, teaching materials and vocational training services. Our activities focus on the fields of mechanical engineering, design engineering, automation, electronics, information technology and business administration (focusing on the MEM industries). Swissmem companies train around 8,200 apprentices in these professions.
Numerous medals won by apprentices at WorldSkills competitions show that vocational training in the Swiss MEM industries ranks among the best in the world. By developing the dual vocational training system, Swissmem’s vocational training school assures and strengthens the competitiveness of its members and of the whole of Switzerland as a business location in the national and international market.
We promote technology in primary schools, market the MEM professions under the label "Fascinating technology" and train talented youngsters for SwissSkills and WorldSkills.
